The Rot Bot began as a wiki, a different content based system able to be modified by multiple users. As proof of concept, it worked fine. In practice, however, the content management system (CMS) approach was more applicable. The Rot Bot lets the user control the content, but lets the administrator to proof and manage the content and other users comment on accuracy of diagnoses. This makes a better database and gives the users the ability to cite uploads as 'admin-reviewed case studies.'

The Rot Bot now uses Drupal, an open-source CMS. It is completely free, in terms of price and in terms of use, and distributed under the GNU Public License.
